Boys Gear Up For USA Trip

Emerging baseball juniors Sebastian McAlister and Flynn Stallworthy will realise a dream when they represent Australia at this year’s U/13 Cal Ripken World Series Tournament in the USA in August.

Twelve year old McAlister of Ryde and Stallworthy, 12 of Lane Cove are two of the brightest prospects on the junior baseball scene and pressed their claims during intensive selection trials over the past six months.

Both are coached by leading mentor Craig Cant, a former TWT Club Six/Ryde Sports Foundation Sports Star of the Year finalist, at his Diamond Dreams Baseball Academy.

McAlister, a promising catcher, is a product of the Macquarie Saints Baseball Juniors and key player for Baulkham Hills in the Hills League while the talented Stallworthy honed his skills with North Ryde RSL Rams and is regarding the number one pitcher in his age group in NSW.

They are part of a powerful Australian squad that will compete in the prestigious tournament at Aberdeen, Maryland in the United States from August 11 to 19.

“Their selection is a just reward for the dedication both payers have put forth in the past 12 months,” said Cant.

“Goals were set and plans laid out to undergo strenuous testing and evaluation, constantly tracking their weekly and monthly development.”

“Many hours of purposeful practice and physical conditioning game both players the tools to stand out amongst their peers.”

“Their outstanding arm strength, quickness, power, and consistency, and work ethic will be put to good use when their wear the green and golf,” he said.

“As personal coach to both Flynn & Sebastian I’m extremely proud of their national team selection and commend them for their dedication and willingness to stick to the plan set a year ago” added Cant.

The Cal Ripken World Series brings together the best 11 and 12 year old baseball players from around the world.

Ten team from the United States earn their way in to the even by traversing their respective tournament trails and six international teams and invited to the event by the Babe Ruth League.

This year Australia will compete against Canada, Dominicana, Harford, Japan, Maryland, Mexico, Mid-Atlantic, Midwest Plains, New England, Ohio Valley, Pacific NW, Pacific SW, Korea, Southeast and Southwest.
